Leadership Giving Officer

One for Democracy (O4D) is a coalition of philanthropists, business leaders, and foundations pledging 1% of their assets towards strengthening our democracy. O4D works to strengthen the infrastructure needed for our democracy, and ultimately our communities, to thrive. We do this by challenging donors to pledge to give 1% or more of their wealth to support democracy work, a major increase over traditional levels of democracy giving, especially in off-election years.

We leverage our networks, the networks of our pledge signers, and build creative campaigns to recruit, engage, and support a new cohort of donors committed to building the infrastructure of democracy. One for Democracy inspired over $70M in new commitments and over 130 pledge signers in the last election cycle.

About the role

The Leadership Giving Officer plays an essential role in expanding and strengthening O4D's pledger and donor network. This role is primarily responsible for securing new commitments and support for the organization by working with a portfolio of high-net-worth prospects who have expressed interest or support. The LGO manages all donor cultivation and solicitation process for their portfolio. This position reports directly to the Director of Development and Leadership Giving.

The ideal candidate enjoys collaboration, possesses a strong track record of donor stewardship and successful solicitations, is a solutions-oriented self-starter, and is comfortable in a start-up organization. The ideal candidate will have experience and comfort with engaging with high-net-worth individuals. This position is expected to hold a high number of in-person solicitation meetings.

The position is remote and can be based anywhere in the United States, with regional travel. If located in the New York City metro area, office space and other supports are available.

Required qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years experience in major gift fundraising and network advancement;
  • Demonstrated ability to convert prospects into supporters with a strong track record of success with high-net-worth individuals;
  • Familiarity and comfort with all aspects of donor relations & fundraising;
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communications and writing ability, including writing high-quality external communications documents such as briefings, recommendations, reports, etc.;
  • Experience in managing multiple tasks effectively in a rapidly-changing environment with several leaders and organizations;
  • Experience with data integrity and maintenance related to CRM and gift processing;
  • Experience managing affinity groups, donor steering committees, or other donor community models;
  • A commitment to the values of a vibrant and inclusive democracy, including a strong labor movement, environmental protection, racial justice & immigrant advocacy, and LGBTQ, human and civil rights;
  • Ability to work with leaders, staff, and members at all levels of organizations and across diverse ideological backgrounds and identities;
  • Sense of humor, creativity, patience, and entrepreneurial energy.

Director of Programs and Partnerships

About the role

The Director of Programs and Partnerships role is to provide important leadership for O4D working directly with the Executive Director, including leading efforts to build programming, recommendations, and advising to the the growing O4D pledger community as part of a larger engagement strategy; lead work with the larger democracy movement and key stakeholders; and support efforts to successfully recruit O4D pledgers and donors.

The Director of Programs and Partnerships will report to the Executive Director and play a key supervision role for a small but dynamic O4D staff and a team of consultants.

Required qualifications

  • Strong strategic judgment, experience and ability to navigate well in a complex, shifting environment;
  • Minimum of 5 years of high-level democracy policy, grant-making or advising work, with demonstrated deep knowledge of the strategies, tactics, and organizations of the pro-democracy movement in the US;
  • Experience playing organizational leadership role preferred, with demonstrated ability to manage "sideways" and "up" with leaders, staff, and members at all levels of organizations and across diverse ideological backgrounds and identities;
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communications and writing ability, including writing high-quality external communications documents such as briefings, recommendations, reports, etc.;
  • Experience in managing multiple tasks effectively in a rapidly-changing environment with several leaders and organizations;
  • Excellent supervisory skills and experience, with demonstrated success in managing teams and developing clear individual goal and accountability mechanisms in pursuit of larger team goals;
  • Proven commitment to the values of a vibrant and inclusive democracy including a strong labor movement, environmental protection, racial justice & immigrant advocacy, and LGBTQ, human and civil rights;
  • Sense of humor, creativity, patience, and entrepreneurial energy.
